Mix a small amount of powdered mineral with sodium carbonate flux then place a bit of the mixture on a platinum wire loop and apply the blowpipe flame until a molten bead forms, now dissolve the bead in a small amount of hydrochloric acid; if a piece of turmeric paper is placed in the solution, it will turn an orange to orange-yellow color.
